Renee Zellweger’s love Ant Anstead reveals if they plan to get married

Renee Zellweger’s boyfriend of five years Ant Anstead has revealed that, although he calls her ‘the missus,’ they have no current plans to get married. 

‘I still believe in marriage, but right now we’re really happy. We don’t need the pressure of a label,’ said the dashing English television presenter.

Anstead, 47, previously made two failed attempts at matrimony, first with one Louise Herbert and then with HGTV blonde Christina Haack, while Zellweger whirled through a blink-and-miss-it four-month marriage to Kenny Chesney in 2005.

He and Zellweger first became an item after meeting on his show Celebrity IOU: Joyride in 2021, and have largely refrained from discussing their relationship in public.

However, the For the Love of Cars heartthrob has now offered a rare glimpse into their romance, raving about Zellweger as a down-to-earth handywoman.

‘She’s a very real person. She’s absolutely brilliant, the most grounded, humble person. If there’s a car job to be done at home, I say: “We’re doing this together. Put your overalls on, let’s go,”‘ he shared with the Telegraph.

The Daily Mail has contacted Zellweger and Anstead’s representatives for comment.

Noting that her ‘dad’s a Swiss engineer’ and ‘you pick things up from your parents,’ he drew back the curtain on their first meeting during Celebrity IOU: Joyride.

On the show, they worked together to restore an Oldsmobile and a Ford Bronco and he was instantly taken with what a ‘hands-on car girl’ she was.

‘She used a grinder to cut metal, she was welding, she was on the spanners,’ marveled Anstead, who has also hosted the series Wheeler Dealers. 

‘A lot of people in America don’t drive stick but, on the first day of filming, we needed to relocate a car for a scene,’ he recalled. ‘Ren jumps in, goes: “I’ll do it!” slams it into first, and off she goes. I’m like: “Wow. This lady really knows her cars.”‘

Last year, while promoting her movie Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, she set off a swirl of engagement speculation by covering her left hand ring finger with bandages.

However she and Anstead both kept mum on the rumors, which subsided on their own as the bandages vanished and no diamond emerged from underneath them. 

Anstead married his first wife Louise Herbert in 2005 and welcomed two children with her, Amelie, 22, and Archie, 19, before they split in 2017.

In 2018 he exchanged vows with Christina Haack, who sH๏τ to fame on the HGTV home renovation show Flip or Flop with her prior husband Tarek El Moussa.

Anstead and Haack welcomed a now seven-year-old son called Hudson before separating in 2020 and finalizing their divorce the following year.

Chesney later remarked in his memoir that his relationships ‘always fell apart’ because the women in his life fell into ‘third or fourth, maybe even fifth’ place thanks to the demands placed on him by his music career.

She and Anstead have settled into a relaxed California lifestyle in Laguna Beach, a wealthy coastal enclave in Orange County, south of Los Angeles.

They are largely able to avoid being pestered by fans, as the ‘community just doesn’t care,’ said Anstead. ‘I bump into famous people in the coffee shop all the time.’

Laguna Beach is apparently so awash in celebrities that Anstead’s strike partner in his over-35 five-a-side football team is Jürgen Klinsmann.
